Ellen's
first solo album, The Dance, was recorded in 1987 at Radio
City Music Hall Studios in New York City. Ellen got musical backup
from a host of fine East Coast (at the time, anyway) musicians
including Shawn Colvin, Lucy Kaplansky and Rod MacDonald on vocals,
Howie Wyeth (drums), Frank Christian (guitar), Ann Hampton Callaway
(piano and vocals), David Massengill (dulcimer) and David Darling
(cello). The Dance was produced by Ellen's brother Steve
and engineered by Les Kahn (Paul Winter Consort, Trio Globo).
